Project
Living Shorelines

Overview
NROC is working in partnership with The Nature Conservancy, coastal managers, and other partners to advance implementation of successful living shorelines projects in New England by increasing understanding of regulatory issues, monitoring techniques, siting, design, and application of living shorelines approaches. As communities struggle with increasing coastal damage from storms, flooding, and sea level rise, living shorelines provide an opportunity to stabilize coastal resources while enhancing habitat and ecosystem services.
Key priorities include:
- Hosting workshops, training sessions, site visits, and other opportunities to provide education, outreach, and training to enhance knowledge about implementation of successful living shorelines.
- Developing and sharing resources, tools, and case studies to expand knowledge exchange and learning about successful application of living shorelines across the Northeast.
- Developing a new living shorelines theme on the Northeast Ocean Data Portal to provide access to maps of current projects, locations where potential or planned projects could be implemented, and resources for practitioners.
