Ocean Acidification

Overview

Coordination across NROC, the Northeast Coastal Acidification Network (NECAN), and Northeastern Regional Association of Coastal Ocean Observing System (NERACOOS) identified monitoring and data priorities through a region-wide workshop and report. NROC is advancing key recommendations outlined in the Monitoring Report by working to develop an ocean acidification data theme on the Northeast Ocean Data Portal in response to the need highlighted by regional partners. NERACOOS/NECAN will continue to focus on research and monitoring questions related to ocean acidification whereas NROC will focus on the application of data collected for tools and data products that inform business and management decisions. This application for business and management decisions is the focus of theme development on the Data Portal. This work involves outreach to managers, planners, researchers, and representatives of the aquaculture and fishing industries to better understand data requirements for permitting, siting, and monitoring.
