NROC News – November 2015

NROC News – monthly news and updates from NROC, its member agencies and partners.

NROC would like you to know –

  • NROC celebrated its 10th anniversary at the recent Council meeting on November 5th. Meeting participants took the opportunity to reflect on NROC’s history, significant accomplishments, and what members and partners value most about NROC (Collaboration, Relationships, and Trust rose to the top!). Happy Anniversary NROC!
  • NROC approved funding for five proposals received in response to its Resilient Shorelines RFP. Selected projects include:
    • Eastern Research Group (ERG) incorporating information on living shorelines in cold climates into a new education tool, “explainer” card stacks, for coastal communities and decision makers;
    • Warren Pinnacle refining SLAMM projections for Connecticut by accounting for road and infrastructure effects and to use spatial analysis to identify and characterize potential marsh migration pathways.
    • Blue Urchin developing enhancements to the MyCoast suite of tools.
    • RPS Applied Science Associates (ASA) working with states to achieve better access to North Atlantic Coast Comprehensive Study (NACCS) model data, including development of model result datasets and web services to connect NACCS data with existing state websites.
    • The Rockingham Planning Commission providing direct technical planning assistance to municipalities to implement recommended actions identified in the Climate Change Adaptation sections of their Hazard Mitigation Plans.

Managing the Resilient Shorelines grant program is part of NROC’s cooperative agreement with the North Atlantic Landscape Conservation Cooperative (NALCC) to deliver science to key coastal partners in the Northeast. It is being carried out as a joint project of NROC’s Ocean and Coastal Ecosystem Health and Coastal Hazards Resilience committees.
